WESTLAND, Mich. — Family members have identified the 20-year-old woman killed in a Westland murder-suicide as Sarah Carroll.
Authorities were called to an apartment complex near Warren Road and Central City Parkway around 9:30 p.m. Saturday after a 911 call reported a shooting. Officers arriving at the scene found both Carroll and a man deceased. Police have not released further details.
Relatives say Carroll, an aspiring physician assistant, had recently started living on her own after her ex-boyfriend moved out. Family members told MDN that he fatally shot Carroll before taking his own life. Carroll’s loved ones describe her as intelligent, brave, strong, and someone whose smile lit up every room.
Her aunt, Debbie Carroll, emphasized the importance of checking on loved ones, noting the ex-boyfriend had struggled with mental health issues.
