Victim Identified After Fatal Crash Into Florence Grocery Store

FLORENCE, Ky. — Police have identified the woman killed after a car crashed into a Florence grocery store Saturday evening, fatally trapping her underneath the vehicle.

The incident occurred around 5:01 p.m. at Yasmin Halal Market, located on Turfway Road inside a small strip mall. According to police, a gray Toyota Camry accelerated forward into the store, destroying its front entrance before coming to a stop inside the building.

Authorities said the victim, struck and pinned beneath the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hours later, she was identified as 63-year-old Fatuma Ali of Florence. Community members confirmed Ali was the longtime owner of Yasmin Halal Market, a store well known in the city’s Somali immigrant community for selling Halal meat, groceries, Islamic clothing, and other essentials.

“It’s a devastating loss. She was kind to everyone and cared deeply about her customers,” one community member told reporters.

The driver of the Camry, who has not been publicly identified, is cooperating with investigators. Police have not released details on what may have led to the crash.

Florence police said their Accident Reconstruction Team and Criminal Investigations Unit are leading the investigation.
