8-Year-Old Boy Drowns in Pool at Hoover Home

HOOVER, Ala. — Authorities are investigating a heartbreaking incident after an 8-year-old boy drowned in a private swimming pool in a Hoover neighborhood on Saturday evening.

The victim has been identified by Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans as Greyson Maiden.

According to the Hoover Police Department, officers and fire medics were dispatched around 8 p.m. to a residence in the 2000 block of River Lake Drive in the Southlake subdivision. Reports indicated that a child had been found unresponsive in a pool at the home. Officials confirmed that Greyson did not live at the residence where the incident occurred.

Lt. Daniel Lowe said Greyson was quickly pulled from the water, and life-saving measures were immediately attempted by first responders. He was rushed to Children’s of Alabama Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Detectives with the Hoover Police Department, along with the Shelby County Coroner’s Office, are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. At this time, authorities say no foul play is suspected, and the case is being treated as a tragic accidental drowning.

The loss of Greyson Maiden has left the Hoover community grieving, as neighbors and loved ones grapple with the devastating news.
