Greensboro College Professor Killed in Crash After Car Strikes Tree

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Greensboro community is mourning the loss of a beloved college professor after a tragic crash Friday evening.

According to the Greensboro Police Department, 64-year-old William Perry Morgan, a theater professor and director of the Musical Theatre Program at Greensboro College, was killed when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree.

Authorities said the accident happened around 5:28 p.m. near Pembroke Road and Chatham Drive. Witnesses reported that Morgan’s Ford Focus sedan was traveling east on Pembroke Road when it ran off the roadway at the dead end, hit a barrier, and continued into nearby woods before colliding with a tree.

Emergency responders, including police, firefighters, and Guilford County EMS, arrived quickly, but Morgan was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

Greensboro College confirmed Morgan’s passing in a statement, describing him as “deeply loved and respected in the Greensboro College community and the theatre community at large.” Colleagues and students remembered him not only for his extraordinary talent and dedication to the arts, but also for his compassion, mentorship, and the lasting impact he left on those he taught.

The college said plans for a memorial service will be announced at a later date.
