CHAMBERS COUNTY, Ala. — An Atlanta-area man wanted in connection with a deadly apartment fire has been arrested during a traffic stop in east Alabama.

Authorities say 44-year-old Shawn Fails was taken into custody by Lanett police after being pulled over just off Interstate 85 in Chambers County.

Fails was being sought in connection to a fatal Labor Day apartment fire in DeKalb County, Georgia. According to WSB-TV, Stephanie Wiley was killed in the fire, and her son was injured.

He was booked into the Chambers County Detention Facility on a Fugitive from Justice charge and is awaiting an extradition hearing. Once returned to Georgia, Fails will face charges of murder, aggravated assault, and arson.

Investigators in Georgia say the case remains active as they continue to piece together what led to the deadly blaze.
