’SAN ANGELO, Texas — A Labor Day morning crash in Callahan County ended tragically after a vehicle overturned, caught fire, and left one person dead.
The Texas Department of Public Safety reported that the incident occurred around 10 a.m. on State Highway 36 near Mile Marker 328. According to preliminary investigations, the vehicle veered into a ditch, struck a pole, and collided with multiple trees before overturning and igniting.
The driver, identified as 31-year-old Victor Duarte Jose of Houston, managed to escape and was airlifted to Parkland Hospital with serious injuries. Tragically, the passenger, 56-year-old Ulises Moreno, also of Houston, became trapped inside the burning vehicle and was pronounced dead after being transported by emergency responders.
TxDPS noted that the investigation is ongoing, and certain details, including final confirmations regarding the victims, remain under review due to limited physical evidence.
