The Winterboro community is mourning the tragic loss of Kenny Simmons, a talented and beloved student-athlete, who passed away over the weekend. Kenny, a standout in both football and track, was more than an athlete—he was a source of joy, laughter, and inspiration for all who knew him.

On Labor Day, around two dozen seniors gathered at Winterboro High School to sing the alma mater in his honor, a song usually reserved for celebrations. The emotional tribute reflected the profound impact Kenny had on his classmates, teammates, and coaches. Senior Trenton Garrett, who organized the gathering, remembered Kenny as someone who could brighten any room. “Even when you were having a bad day, Kenny would say something to make you smile,” Garrett said.

Though the community faces immense grief, students, teachers, and family members are united in keeping Kenny’s memory alive. His laughter, spirit, and passion for life will not be forgotten.

The Winterboro community extends heartfelt condolences to Kenny’s family, including his mother, twin sister, and younger sister. While his life was far too short, his legacy of kindness, athletic excellence, and joy will live on in the hearts of everyone he touched.
