PLEASANT GROVE, Utah — Felony charges have been filed against 80-year-old George Parker Hunter, the driver accused in a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of 9-year-old Dalton Gibbs earlier this year.
Court records show Hunter is facing one count of second-degree felony manslaughter and one count of third-degree felony for leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
The tragic crash happened on April 29, 2025, when Dalton was riding his bicycle home from school. Investigators say he was struck by Hunter’s truck at the intersection of 2600 North and 900 West, dragged nearly 50 feet, and his bicycle left wedged beneath the vehicle. Dalton was rushed to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.
Witnesses said they desperately tried to get Hunter to stop, waving and pointing, but he drove on. According to police documents, Hunter later admitted he realized he had hit a bicycle but claimed he did not think a child was on it.
The boy’s death shook the Pleasant Grove community. Friends, neighbors, and classmates gathered for a candlelight vigil, covering the crash site with flowers, blue ribbons, and balloons in his memory. Dalton was remembered as “an amazing boy who brought light and happiness to everyone around him.”
The case remains under investigation as the legal process moves forward.
