KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Authorities have identified the victims of a deadly downtown shooting near the Power & Light District that left two people dead and three others injured early Sunday morning.

According to the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), 24-year-old Kane Taddese and 18-year-old John Alfaro were killed in the shooting, which happened around 3:30 a.m. on Aug. 24 in a parking lot near East 13th Street and Grand Boulevard, close to the T-Mobile Center.

Police said three other victims — a man, a woman, and a boy under 18 — were also wounded in the gunfire. Witnesses reported hearing dozens of shots, and nearby buildings were left marked with bullet holes.

One resident, Richard Ruiz, who lives on the nineteenth floor of the Three Light apartment building, described the chaos: “I saw cars screeching out of here, cop cars pulling up, an ambulance — I mean, it was insane.”

Investigators believe the shooting began as an argument that escalated to violence. While no suspects have been arrested, police confirmed that widely circulated social media videos have helped detectives make “incredible progress” in identifying several individuals connected to the case.

The investigation remains active.
