New Bern Mourns Young Motorcyclist Killed in South Glenburnie Crash

NEW BERN, N.C. — Tragedy struck Tuesday night when a motorcycle collision on South Glenburnie Road claimed the life of 23-year-old Allen Birzack, a New Bern resident whose life was cut far too short.

According to the New Bern Police Department, the crash happened around 8:19 p.m. near the Handy Mart at 1800 S. Glenburnie Road. Investigators say Birzack was traveling southbound when a Toyota Camry attempted to make a left turn out of a parking lot. The motorcycle and car collided in the intersection.

Despite the swift response of emergency crews, Birzack was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota Camry was not injured.

For a brief time, South Glenburnie Road was shut down near the Jimmy John’s and Exxon as first responders worked under flashing lights, a somber reminder of how quickly tragedy can unfold.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash. In the meantime, they are urging all drivers to remain alert and cautious, especially at intersections and driveways where lives can change in an instant.

Friends and loved ones now grieve the sudden loss of a young man remembered not for the crash, but for the life he lived.
