HAZEL PARK, Mich — Heartbreak and shock ripple through the Hazel Park community after a mother and her young son were found dead in their home in what police are investigating as a double homicide.
On Monday afternoon, officers discovered 41-year-old Linda Hill and her 12-year-old son, Kardi Jackson, inside their residence on Berdeno Avenue, near I-75 and 9 Mile. Authorities say the two sustained fatal injuries from apparent trauma.
Police have not yet released details on how the crime unfolded but confirmed they are developing suspect information. While no arrests have been made, investigators say they do not believe the public is in danger.
Family members describe Linda as someone full of life and joy. Her older son, 21-year-old Damontez Hill, shared, “She wasn’t bothering nobody, always fun, main thing she wanted to do was have fun. I don’t even know what would make a person do something like this. It’s messed up.”
Relatives said Linda and Kardi were supposed to attend a Labor Day gathering but never arrived. A family member recalls being on the phone with Linda just before the line went silent.
The Hazel Park School District has notified families and made grief resources available to students following the loss of a beloved classmate.
Loved ones have created a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs for Linda and Kardi: Support Funeral Costs for Linda and Kardi.
Police urge anyone with information to contact the Hazel Park Police Department.
