WEST JORDAN, Utah — Authorities have identified the man killed in a standoff with West Jordan police on Tuesday evening as 26-year-old Elhelbawy Adam Idrees.
The standoff lasted approximately five hours, beginning after a 9-1-1 call reporting a domestic argument at a West Jordan residence. Law enforcement deployed SWAT officers, and the situation ended when Idrees was shot and killed.
Idrees had a prior criminal history. In 2018, he was arrested at age 19 in connection with a shooting in Millcreek. Three years later, in 2021, he faced charges including 13 counts of forgery, possession of stolen firearms, and gang-related activity.
Authorities have released a mugshot from his 2018 arrest, showing Idrees at 18 years old. Investigators continue to review the events leading up to the deadly standoff, though no further details have been disclosed.
The West Jordan Police Department said it will continue cooperating with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office as the investigation proceeds.
