AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department has identified 22-year-old Eric Tobias Billingsley as the victim of a fatal collision in northwest Austin early Sunday morning.
The crash happened on August 31, just before 1 a.m., near the intersection of the southbound U.S. 183 service road and McNeil Drive. According to APD, officers arrived on scene around 12:58 a.m. and found that a motorcycle and another vehicle had been involved in the collision.
Billingsley, the driver of the vehicle, was transported to a nearby hospital, but despite emergency efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Authorities said the motorcyclist remained at the scene, cooperated fully with investigators, and was not impaired at the time of the crash. No arrests or citations have been issued, though detectives continue to examine factors such as speed, roadway conditions, and driver actions.
This incident marks Austin’s 70th fatal crash of 2025, with a total of 74 traffic-related deaths so far this year—an increase compared to the same period in 2024. Police stress that the rise in collisions underscores the need for heightened caution and defensive driving on city roadways.
