SOUTH MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection with the death of a 68-year-old woman, South Milwaukee police confirmed.
Officers responded to a home near 17th Avenue and Oak Street on Aug. 27 after reports of an unresponsive woman. Emergency crews found the victim without a pulse and not breathing. She was transported to a local hospital, where she passed away on Aug. 31.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy, which revealed internal injuries to the woman’s neck consistent with strangulation. Investigators determined that the 15-year-old suspect, who was arrested on Wednesday, is related to the victim.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of either the victim or the suspect. The investigation remains ongoing as police work with prosecutors to determine charges.
Neighbors and community members have expressed shock and sadness, with many calling the incident a heartbreaking family tragedy.
