Victim Identified in Marshall County Stabbing; Investigation Ongoing

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. — Authorities have identified the victim in a Wednesday morning stabbing near Bremen as 56-year-old Elizabeth Hite of Goshen.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office responded to a rural residence near Jute and 1st Roads around 4 a.m., where they found a male subject with non-life-threatening injuries. That man has since been arrested, though his identity has not been released.

The incident is under investigation, with assistance from the Indiana State Police and Bremen Police Department. Authorities are executing or seeking a search warrant at a property on Jute in connection with the case.

Lt. Det. Les McFarland of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department said the incident is believed to be domestic in nature and emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to the public. “We’re continuing forward with the investigation. There’s no threat to public safety at this time,” McFarland said.

Crime scene tape remains around a vehicle at the residence, though the road has since reopened. An autopsy for Hite is scheduled for Thursday to determine her official cause of death.

The Marshall County Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment, but an update on the case is expected by the end of the week.
