MORAVIAN FALLS, N.C. – The North Carolina State Highway Patrol investigated a fatal collision Thursday, September 4, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m. on NC 16 near the Alexander County line in Wilkes County. The crash involved a 2016 Acura MDX and a 2013 Dodge Dart, both traveling northbound, and resulted in one death.
Authorities reported that the driver of the Acura, 55-year-old Rose Coerich of Taylorsville, lost control of her vehicle, which veered off the right side of the road, down an embankment, and struck a tree. Coerich was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, 29-year-old Hayden Monroe Bolick, also of Taylorsville, was not injured.
NC 16 was closed in the area for approximately five hours while troopers conducted an on-scene investigation. Preliminary findings indicate impairment was not a factor, though possible charges are pending consultation with the Wilkes County District Attorney’s Office.
The Highway Patrol extended condolences to Coerich’s family and reminded motorists to exercise caution while driving in the area. The investigation remains ongoing.
