STONY BROOK, N.Y. — A 25-year-old man is facing serious charges after a deadly crash in Stony Brook claimed the life of a motorcyclist early Saturday morning.
According to Suffolk County Police, the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. at the intersection of Nesconset Highway and Moriches Road. Investigators said Mark Anthony Giordano, 25, was driving under the influence when his vehicle struck a motorcycle operated by 24-year-old Jerry Diaz of Nesconset.
First responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that Giordano was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated.
The tragic crash has once again highlighted the devastating consequences of impaired driving, a persistent issue on Long Island and across the state. Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who has additional information to contact Suffolk County Police.
