COLUMBUS, Ga. — A heavy police presence has been reported Friday evening in multiple areas near Fort Benning Road, as authorities respond to an active crime scene.
Officers are currently concentrated in the area of Calhoun Drive at Penn Avenue, just off Fort Benning Road. Another scene is unfolding across the street at Patriot Pointe Senior Residences on Chapman Way, where additional law enforcement units have been spotted.
While details remain limited, officials say they are working to confirm reports of a possible shooting connected to the incident. Police tape and patrol cars can be seen blocking off parts of the area, and investigators are on scene gathering evidence.
