Louisville Police Investigating Fatal Shooting That Claimed Life of Mitchale Groves

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A homicide investigation is underway following a fatal shooting in Louisville’s Newburg neighborhood early Saturday morning.

According to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), officers were dispatched to the 5500 block of Lodema Way shortly before 4 a.m. after reports of gunfire. When they entered an apartment at the location, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the swift response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as 48-year-old Mitchale Groves. Officials confirmed he died from his injuries.

LMPD’s Homicide Unit is leading the investigation. While the department has not released information about potential suspects or motives, police stated that all parties involved have been accounted for. Authorities emphasized that they do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the community.

Neighbors described being startled awake by sirens as police secured the scene and collected evidence. The investigation remains active as detectives work to determine the circumstances surrounding Groves’ death.
