Phillip Andrew McBride Identified as Victim in Fatal Henrico Crash

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed in a tragic tractor-trailer crash on Thursday morning as 37-year-old Phillip Andrew McBride, a well-known sign spinner in the community.

The deadly accident occurred around 11:45 a.m. on Sept. 4 at the intersection of Williamsburg Road and South Laburnum Avenue. Police said McBride was at the intersection when a tractor-trailer, hauling a heavy concrete slab, collided with a smaller straight-truck carrying propane. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to flip onto its side, pinning McBride beneath it. Despite immediate emergency response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital but has since been released. The driver of the propane truck was not injured. No other bystanders were harmed.

Investigators believe the crash was caused when the tractor-trailer driver ran a red light on Williamsburg Road. The propane truck, moving with a green light on South Laburnum Avenue, struck the tractor-trailer, triggering the overturn that led to McBride’s death.

For many in Henrico County, McBride was a familiar and hardworking presence, recognized daily for his role as a sign spinner along busy roads. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and community members grieving.

The crash caused major traffic delays as police investigated and cleared the wreckage. Authorities are continuing to review evidence, including witness statements and traffic light data, to determine if charges will be filed.
