DESOTO PARISH, La — A fatal crash early Saturday morning claimed the life of a Texas man after his vehicle collided with a saltwater tanker in DeSoto Parish.
According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP), the accident happened around 6:30 a.m. on Sept. 6 at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 169 and Louisiana Highway 172.
Investigators say a 2025 Mack Pinnacle saltwater tanker was traveling south on LA 169, approaching the intersection, when a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 34-year-old Zapien German of Carthage, Texas, entered from LA 172. The two vehicles collided, and German, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from his pickup. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mack truck, who was properly restrained, was not injured in the crash.
State Police say impairment is not suspected at this time, though routine toxicology samples were taken for testing. The investigation remains ongoing.
In a statement, LSP reminded drivers of the importance of safe driving habits: “Never drive while impaired, fatigued, or distracted; always ensure every occupant is properly restrained and obey all traffic laws… simple precautions can mean the difference between life and death.”
