Homestead, FL – Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the shooting of 16-year-old Elijah Quintero, who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition early Friday morning, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO).
The shooting occurred around 3:45 a.m. in the area of Southwest 283rd Street and Southwest 140th Place, west of the Florida Turnpike and just north of Biscayne Drive. Deputies responded to a call about a person yelling and found Quintero lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Friends described him as a “good kid” who was active in church and community projects.
Investigators with the South District General Investigations Unit later arrested 20-year-old Napoleon Bryant, charged with attempted first-degree murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, aggravated assault with a firearm, tampering with evidence while armed, and unlawfully discharging a firearm in a residential area. Jesus Aguilar, 30, and Tazaria Alize Miller, 22, were both charged with tampering with evidence and accessory after the fact.
Miami-Dade Deputy Joseph Peguero said it is still unclear why the shooting occurred and whether it was an isolated incident.
Neighbors expressed concern for the safety of their families. Tyrone Payne said, “It’s disturbing… I just hope he makes a full recovery.”
