Auburn Man Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of Retired Professor

AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn police have arrested Harold Rashad Dabney III, 32, of Montgomery, on two counts of capital murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of Dr. Julie Schnuelle, 59, at Kiesel Park.

Authorities say Schnuelle, a retired Auburn University professor, was attacked while walking her dog Saturday morning. Fortunately, her dog was unharmed during the incident.

Following the attack, police report that Dabney stole Schnuelle’s red Ford F-150, which was later recovered on Wire Road near the Farmer in the Dell pumpkin patch. Dabney was taken into custody Sunday morning after officers responded to a call about a suspicious person on Beehive Road.

He is currently being held at the Lee County Jail without bond as investigators continue to gather evidence surrounding the case.

The Auburn Police Department has said the investigation remains ongoing and asks anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
