SAN ANGELO, Texas — A rollover crash Saturday evening claimed the life of Miguel Leija, 33, of Ballinger, authorities said.
According to a Texas Department of Public Safety (TxDPS) press release, the incident occurred around 8:35 p.m. on County Road 287, a dirt road approximately 6 miles west of Ballinger. Leija was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 westbound when his truck partially left the roadway for an unknown reason. In an attempt to correct, Leija oversteered, causing a broadside skid.
The vehicle traveled through a ditch and into an open field, ultimately overturning. TxDPS reports that Leija was ejected from the pickup because he was not wearing a seatbelt.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Lane Pinckney.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is ongoing. Authorities have not released any additional details at this time.
