NORTHPORT, Ala – Authorities are investigating a fatal accident after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle Saturday night in Northport.
According to the Northport Police Department, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Lurleen Wallace Boulevard, a heavily traveled roadway in the city.
When officers and emergency crews arrived, they confirmed that the victim, identified as Willie Lott of Northport, had been struck in the northbound lanes. Despite immediate efforts by first responders, Lott was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say no criminal charges are currently pending against the driver involved, whose identity has not been released. Investigators are reviewing all circumstances surrounding the collision, including factors such as speed, lighting conditions, and pedestrian visibility.
Traffic in the area was temporarily disrupted Saturday evening while officers worked at the scene. The crash has raised concerns among community members about pedestrian safety along high-traffic routes like Lurleen Wallace Boulevard.
