SMYRNA, Del. – Delaware State Police have identified the man killed in a fatal motorcycle crash early Friday morning near Smyrna as 59-year-old Joseph Laclair of Clayton.
The crash happened around 4:16 a.m. on September 5, along Smyrna-Leipsic Road east of Big Oak Road. Investigators say Laclair was operating a Yamaha X1A motorcycle when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle left the roadway, entered a ditch, and struck a culvert pipe. Laclair was thrown from the bike and died at the scene, authorities confirmed.
The Delaware State Police Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to contact Sergeant J. Wilson at (302) 698-8518. Anonymous tips may also be submitted via Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333 or through the Delaware State Police Facebook page.
