Archie Hale, 40, Charged with Murder in Fatal Highway 31 Crash

HARTSELLE, Ala. — On September 10, 2025, Traffic Homicide Investigators obtained a warrant for Archie Hale, 40, of Hillsboro, charging him with Murder in connection to a deadly crash that occurred on September 6, 2025.

The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. when Hale, identified as the driver of a vehicle traveling westbound on Highway 36, entered the intersection at Highway 31 at a very high rate of speed while the traffic light was red for his direction. According to investigators, video evidence confirmed that Hale’s reckless actions demonstrated extreme indifference to human life, creating a grave risk that ultimately caused the death of a juvenile victim.

Hale sustained serious injuries in the crash and remains under medical care. Hartselle officers are standing by to assume custody upon his release. Once in custody, Hale will be held without bond.

In addition to the murder charge, Hale faces multiple charges through the Priceville Police Department, including Attempting to Elude, Possession with Intent, DUI, Reckless Endangerment, and several moving violations. His combined bonds on those charges amount to $296,000.

Authorities confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and extensive, as multiple victims were involved. Investigators must review medical records to determine the severity of all injuries, and additional charges are expected.

Chief McDearmond stated that he met with a representative of the juvenile victim’s family prior to obtaining the warrant. While acknowledging that nothing can replace the life lost, he emphasized that the Hartselle Police Department is fully committed to pursuing justice on behalf of the young victim and their family.
