WATERLOO, N.Y — Authorities have identified the bicyclist killed in a tragic crash on Monday morning as 61-year-old Kimberly Walborn of Waterloo, according to the New York State Police.
The fatal collision occurred around 7:25 a.m. on September 8 along Hecker Road, where Walborn was riding eastbound on her bicycle. Police said she was struck by two vehicles traveling in the same direction. The impact was severe, and Walborn was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both drivers involved remained at the site and cooperated fully with investigators. Officials confirmed there was no evidence of impairment, noting that neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors in the crash. At this time, authorities believe the incident was a tragic traffic accident, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Troopers are continuing to examine factors such as vehicle speeds, road conditions, visibility, and roadway design to determine how the collision unfolded and whether safety improvements might prevent similar incidents in the future.
Walborn’s sudden death has left the Waterloo community in mourning. At 61, she was remembered as an active member of the town, and her loss underscores the vulnerability of bicyclists who share the roads with larger vehicles.
Local officials and safety advocates emphasized the importance of driver vigilance and mutual respect on the road, urging motorists to give cyclists adequate space and to stay alert at all times. Cyclists, in turn, are encouraged to follow safety practices, including using visible gear, obeying traffic laws, and remaining attentive to traffic patterns.
As investigators continue their work, Walborn’s family, friends, and neighbors are left grieving an irreplaceable loss. Her passing is a sobering reminder of the dangers cyclists face and the need for greater awareness to protect all road users.
