TRENTON, N.J — Authorities have identified the pedestrian who tragically lost his life in a Sunday afternoon incident in Trenton as 40-year-old Sedrick Bailey of Lawrence in Mercer County.
Emergency responders were called to the intersection of New Willow and Jennett streets shortly after 2 p.m. on September 7. When they arrived, they found Bailey lying in the roadway with severe injuries. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts by medical staff, he later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Bailey had been struck as a pedestrian, though details about the circumstances remain unclear. Authorities have not yet said whether a driver remained at the scene, if multiple vehicles may have been involved, or whether other factors such as speed, visibility, or weather played a role.
The crash remains under active investigation, and no charges have been announced. Officials said further findings could depend on accident reconstruction, surveillance footage, and witness accounts.
The intersection, located in a residential neighborhood, has left nearby residents unsettled. Pedestrian safety has long been a concern in Trenton, with community members often calling for clearer crosswalks, better lighting, and traffic-calming measures to prevent tragedies like this one.
For Bailey’s family and friends, his sudden death has brought deep grief. At just 40 years old, his life was cut short unexpectedly on what began as a typical Sunday afternoon. Those who knew him have expressed shock and sadness, remembering him as part of the Lawrence and Mercer County community.
The prosecutor’s office is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward with information to aid investigators.
As the investigation continues, Bailey’s passing serves as a somber reminder of the vulnerability of pedestrians and the devastating impact of roadway tragedies.
