FINDLAY, Ohio (Sept. 10, 2025) – Authorities have identified the man found deceased in a vehicle on Wednesday as Officer John Schimmoeller of Rawson, according to the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called shortly before noon to 14636 State Route 698, where Schimmoeller was discovered in a field west of the property. Officials confirmed he was found deceased inside his vehicle.
Preliminary findings indicate the death was self-inflicted. Investigators said no foul play is suspected, and there is no threat to the public.
The Sheriff’s Office noted that the investigation remains ongoing as they complete reports and review all circumstances.
Community members are being asked to keep the Sheriff’s Office, as well as Schimmoeller’s family and loved ones, in their thoughts during this difficult time.
