SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified 30-year-old Oscar Davila as the man killed in a fiery single-vehicle crash on San Antonio’s far South Side early Monday morning.
The accident happened just before 6 a.m. in the 200 block of Moursund Boulevard, near East Ashley Road. According to preliminary findings from the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), Davila was driving a Dodge Durango at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle.
The SUV struck a guardrail, then a utility pole, before careening into a drainage ditch where it caught fire. Despite the rapid response of emergency crews, Davila was trapped inside and pronounced dead at the scene.
The collision left behind significant wreckage, briefly affecting traffic as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and assist police with clearing the area. SAPD investigators believe speed was a major factor in the crash, though they are also reviewing other possible causes, including mechanical failure and roadway conditions.
No other vehicles were involved, and no additional injuries were reported. Authorities have not confirmed whether Davila was wearing a seatbelt at the time.
Neighbors expressed shock at the fatal crash, noting that speeding is a frequent issue along Moursund Boulevard. One resident described the roadway as dangerous, especially in early morning hours when drivers often exceed posted limits.
The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Davila’s remains have been released to his family, who are expected to make funeral arrangements in the coming days.
SAPD continues to investigate the crash and is reviewing surveillance footage from the area. Officials are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact the department’s traffic investigations unit.
This tragedy adds to a string of recent traffic fatalities in the San Antonio area, highlighting the devastating consequences of high-speed driving. Authorities are once again urging motorists to slow down, remain alert, and prioritize safety on the roads.
