MELBOURNE, Fla. — Authorities have identified 50-year-old Roy Breault of Palm Bay as the victim of a fatal traffic accident that occurred Thursday morning in Melbourne.
According to the Melbourne Police Department, the crash happened around 6:30 a.m. on Eau Gallie Boulevard near Stewart Avenue. Investigators said an SUV traveling eastbound attempted to make a left-hand turn, crossing into the path of Breault, who was heading westbound on his motorcycle. The collision left Breault with no time to react, and the impact proved fatal.
Emergency crews arrived quickly, but Breault was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported, and police have not yet released information regarding the condition of the SUV’s driver. Investigators are still working to determine whether speed, distraction, or other factors contributed to the crash.
The section of Eau Gallie Boulevard where the accident occurred is a heavily traveled roadway, especially during morning hours. Police noted that intersections like Stewart Avenue can be particularly dangerous when drivers misjudge the distance or speed of oncoming vehicles.
Breault’s death adds to the troubling rise in motorcycle fatalities across Florida. Despite helmets and other protective gear, motorcyclists remain highly vulnerable in collisions with larger vehicles. Safety advocates continue to urge drivers to exercise caution, particularly at intersections, where most serious motorcycle crashes occur.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or may have information to contact the Melbourne Police Department at 321-616-6116 to assist with the ongoing investigation.
For Breault’s loved ones and the Palm Bay community, the loss is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks motorcyclists face every day. Officials are emphasizing the need for all drivers to remain alert, double-check for motorcycles before making turns, and avoid distractions behind the wheel in hopes of preventing future tragedies.
