Suspect Charged with Capital Murder in Gruesome Beheading at Dallas Motel

DALLAS, Texas (Sept. 10, 2025) – A Dallas man is facing a capital murder charge after a brutal killing at a local motel that left one man dead in what police described as a beheading.

Authorities identified the victim as 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah and the suspect as 37-year-old Yordanis Cobos-Martinez.

Dallas police responded to a stabbing call around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Downtown Suites motel. According to an arrest affidavit, the confrontation began when Nagamallaiah advised Cobos-Martinez not to use a broken washing machine. Witnesses told police that Cobos-Martinez grew angry after Nagamallaiah sought translation assistance from another person rather than speaking directly to him.

Surveillance video showed Cobos-Martinez leaving the room, retrieving a machete, and then attacking Nagamallaiah as he attempted to escape to the motel’s front office. Witnesses reported that Cobos-Martinez continued the assault even after the victim collapsed, while family members tried to intervene.

Police officers quickly arrived and took Cobos-Martinez into custody. Despite being armed at the time, officials said he was arrested without further injury to others.

Dallas Police Executive Assistant Chief Terrence Rhodes condemned the attack and emphasized the department’s commitment to a full and thorough investigation, stating that detectives are working to ensure justice for the victim and his family.

Cobos-Martinez is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail on a capital murder charge.

The case remains under active investigation.
