SOUTHPORT, N.C. — Authorities have arrested 40-year-old Nigel Max Edge of Oak Island in connection with the deadly mass shooting at the American Fish Company in Southport late Saturday night. The attack left three people dead and several others wounded, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit coastal community.

Court documents reveal Edge now faces 13 felony charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill or inflict serious injury.

Investigators say Edge carried out the attack using a short-barrel AR-style rifle equipped with a suppressor, folding stock, and scope. Witnesses described panic as gunfire erupted along the waterfront, forcing crowds to scatter for safety.

Edge is currently being held without bond at the Brunswick County Jail.

Search warrants also tie Edge’s home on NW 10th Street to the case. A boat bearing the name “Game On” was seen at his residence in 2025 Google images. Authorities believe it matches a vessel spotted near the scene of the shooting.

Officials continue to investigate the motive and circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

This is a developing story.
