PENN TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Tragedy struck Saturday night when 47-year-old Mac Iwinski of Bernville lost his life in a head-on collision along Bernville Road (Route 183).
The crash happened around 8:10 p.m. in the 5000 block of Bernville Road. Investigators say Iwinski was driving a black Subaru sedan northbound when his vehicle crossed into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with a white Nissan Sentra. The impact caused both vehicles to spin and come to rest in the southbound lane.
Iwinski was pronounced dead at the scene by the Berks County Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Nissan, a 22-year-old man from Schwenksville, and his passenger, a 22-year-old woman from Reading, were both airlifted by Life Lion to Reading Hospital with injuries. Their current conditions have not yet been released.
Authorities noted that Iwinski’s Subaru appeared to be operating without proper headlights despite the low-light conditions at the time of the crash. The roadway is posted at 45 mph and clearly marked with double yellow lines.
Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the crash as the community mourns the loss of Iwinski.
