ASHE COUNTY, N.C. — A 21-year-old man, identified as Joshua Hogde, was killed early Saturday morning following a single-vehicle crash in Ashe County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. on NC Highway 88 near Elliot Road. Investigators say Hogde was driving eastbound when he lost control of his vehicle. The car veered into the opposite lane, left the roadway, and struck a ditch.
Emergency crews responded quickly and transported Hogde to Ashe Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Troopers reported that speed and possible impairment are believed to have played a role in the accident. As part of the investigation, NC Highway 88 was temporarily closed in the area while officials worked the scene and gathered evidence.
Authorities continue to review the circumstances leading up to the crash.
