Bear, Delaware – Delaware State Police have identified 44-year-old Rasheeva Moore, of New Castle, as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Sunday morning on Route 40 near Fir Avenue.

According to investigators, the collision happened at approximately 10:00 a.m. when a Chevrolet Malibu driven by 46-year-old Omar Mendoza, of New Castle, entered the crossover for Fir Avenue, failed to stop at the stop sign, and traveled into the westbound lanes in the wrong direction. A Suzuki motorcycle, traveling westbound, struck the Malibu, ejecting both the operator and his passenger, Moore.

Moore was pronounced dead at the scene. The 36-year-old motorcycle operator, a man from Bear, and Mendoza were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

Following medical treatment, Mendoza was arrested and arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11. He faces multiple charges, including Vehicular Homicide Second Degree, Driving Without a Valid License, Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Roadway, and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device. He was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $10,250 cash bond.

The roadway remained closed for approximately three and a half hours as the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the scene.
