EAST UNION TOWNSHIP, Ohio — An Orrville man has died following a single-vehicle crash in East Union Township on Thursday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said they were alerted around 2:15 p.m. by a passing driver who reported a vehicle in a ditch along Apple Creek. When authorities arrived, they discovered a 2020 gray Chrysler Pacifica that had veered off the left side of the road, coming to rest at the bottom of a small embankment.
The driver, identified as 76-year-old David Clay Wertz, was found inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators noted that a possible medical emergency may have contributed to the crash, though the official cause remains under investigation.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to look into the circumstances of the accident. No other vehicles or individuals were involved.
This tragic incident highlights the potential dangers that medical conditions can pose while driving. Authorities have extended their condolences to Wertz’s family as they grieve this unexpected loss.
