CONROE, Texas – Authorities have identified 18-year-old David Flores of Conroe as the victim in a tragic single-vehicle crash that occurred late Sunday night on State Highway 242 near Artavia.

The Caney Creek Fire Department was dispatched at approximately 10:33 p.m. to reports of a major rollover crash. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered three people injured—one critically. A passing nurse was already performing CPR on Flores when crews arrived. He was transported by medics to Memorial Hermann in The Woodlands, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Two passengers, ages 15 and 19, were also transported to the hospital with critical injuries. Investigators say the Chevrolet passenger car had been traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. After passing the light at Artavia, the driver reportedly locked the brakes, lost control, and veered into a ditch, striking a culvert pipe before rolling multiple times—at least seven, according to witnesses.

A nearby couple traveling westbound narrowly avoided being struck by the flipping vehicle. Officials confirmed all three occupants had been wearing seatbelts.

Crews with Saddle Creek removed the vehicle from the scene, and the roadway reopened around 1:30 a.m. The crash remains under investigation.
