The Sikeston Department of Public Safety is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Officer Henry Franklin, who was tragically killed in the line of duty on October 6, 2025.
Officer Franklin, a dedicated member of the Sikeston DPS Tactical Team, was responding to a mutual aid call in Mississippi County when he was fatally shot by an individual concealed inside a residence during the service of a warrant. Despite the heroic efforts of his fellow officers and emergency personnel, Franklin succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
A respected and courageous public servant, Franklin joined the Sikeston Department of Public Safety in June 2013. He proudly served as the handler for K9 Odin and was a U.S. Army veteran, having completed two tours in Iraq. His bravery, discipline, and commitment to service were known throughout the community and among his peers.
“Our department has suffered an unimaginable loss,” said Sikeston DPS Director James McMillen. “We ask that you keep Franklin’s family and our department in your prayers.”
Officer Franklin is survived by his wife, Leah, four children, mother, Sally Turner Doyle, and sister, Amy Eastman. Flags in Sikeston will fly at half-staff in his honor through the day of his funeral.
