ESSEX COUNTY, Va. — The Virginia State Police are investigating a devastating two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Tappahannock woman and left another driver seriously injured on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at approximately 12:44 p.m. The collision occurred on Route 619 (Kino Road), just north of Clarke Lane in Essex County.

According to investigators, a 2019 Kia Sorento traveling southbound crossed the double-yellow centerline and struck a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado traveling northbound in a violent head-on collision. The driver of the Kia, 29-year-old Devin Nicole Woodland of Tappahannock, died at the scene as a result of her injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet, 59-year-old Timothy Winn McKinley, also of Tappahannock, was seriously injured and airlifted to VCU Medical Center in Richmond for emergency treatment.

Preliminary findings indicate that neither driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Authorities have not yet determined what caused the Kia to cross into the opposing lane.

The Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the incident. The community of Tappahannock mourns the loss of Devin Woodland, whose untimely passing has left family and friends heartbroken.
