ST. LANDRY PARISH, La. — The Opelousas Police Department has identified Mareya Henry as the victim in a recent homicide that occurred in the 1000 block of Hashim Street, off George Drive. Authorities have also identified Kera Vitatoe as a suspect in the case.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Vitatoe on charges of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. Investigators say Vitatoe and Henry were previously involved in a personal relationship, and Vitatoe had a prior arrest in another jurisdiction for battery against Henry.
Police are warning the public that Vitatoe should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding her location is urged not to approach her and to immediately contact local law enforcement. All calls remain anonymous, and tips leading to an arrest may qualify for a cash reward.
Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Henry’s death and are working diligently to gather more information. Authorities are asking the community to assist in locating Vitatoe and to come forward with any information that may help bring justice for Mareya Henry.
