Victim Identified in Fatal Wrong-Way Crash on I-787 in Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. — Authorities have identified the victim in a fatal wrong-way crash that occurred early Sunday morning on Interstate 787. According to New York State Police, 38-year-old Eric Hurley of Albany died at the scene after his vehicle was struck head-on by another driver traveling the wrong way in the northbound lanes near Exit 2.

The collision happened just after 4:30 a.m. Emergency responders arrived to find both vehicles heavily damaged. Hurley suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The wrong-way driver was transported to Albany Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries and remains hospitalized, police said.

Investigators have not yet determined why the other driver was traveling in the wrong direction, and no charges have been filed at this time. State Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and additional details will be released as they become available.

This fatal crash occurred the same morning as another deadly incident on I-787 that left two people dead, for which an Albany woman was later arrested. Authorities are urging drivers to remain alert and cautious on the roadways as they continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding both tragic collisions.
