MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A tragic accident at a Memphis motel Monday evening claimed the life of a 2-year-old girl, according to the Memphis Police Department.
Officers were called to the Economy Inn on Ketchum Road just after 6:15 p.m., where they discovered a young child had been struck by a Chevrolet Impala driving through the motel’s parking lot.
The child, identified by family as Layloni Stevens, was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Family members said they live at the motel and that Layloni had been playing outside and chasing a ball at the time of the crash.
Police confirmed the driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges or arrests have been made at this time.
The investigation remains ongoing.
