SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, Va. — Authorities are investigating a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 61-year-old James Bijesse late Saturday night.
According to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 11:55 p.m. on October 11, 2025, to reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the 10200 block of Patriot Highway. When deputies arrived, they found Bijesse lying in the roadway. Despite life-saving efforts by Spotsylvania Fire Rescue personnel, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say the vehicle involved fled before law enforcement arrived. The Traffic Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate and is actively seeking information to identify the driver. Investigators urge anyone with video footage, witness information, or knowledge of the suspect vehicle to come forward.
Sheriff Roger L. Harris expressed his condolences to Bijesse’s loved ones, saying the department’s thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this heartbreaking time.
