Fatal Motorcycle Crash Claims the Life of 22-Year-Old Collin Rice in Dowell

DOWELL, Ill – Authorities have identified the victim of a deadly motorcycle crash that occurred early Saturday morning on Dowell Road near Chammess Road in rural Dowell.

According to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the crash involved two motorcycles traveling west on Dowell Road  one driven by 22-year-old Collin Rice of Blue Island, and the other by 22-year-old Tyler Hill of Marion.

Investigators said that as Rice attempted to pass Hill, the motorcycles may have made contact, causing Rice to lose control. His motorcycle veered off the road, and he was ejected from the bike, suffering major injuries. Tragically, Collin Rice was pronounced dead at the scene.

Hill managed to bring his motorcycle to a controlled stop but sustained a non-life-threatening injury and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Deputies reported that alcohol impairment appeared to be a contributing factor, and neither rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The roadway was shut down for approximately two hours while investigators processed the scene.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate this tragic accident.
