Man Charged with Murder After Fatal Shooting of Girlfriend in North St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — A man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of his girlfriend early Tuesday morning in north St. Louis.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were notified around 2:25 a.m. on October 14 after a woman suffering from a gunshot wound was dropped off at a local hospital by a rideshare driver. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Investigators later determined the shooting occurred near North Broadway and East Clarence Avenue in the city’s Sixth District. Police say the victim, 29-year-old Trinity Staten, had just entered a rideshare vehicle when she was shot moments later. The rideshare driver, who was unharmed, immediately drove Staten to the hospital in an effort to save her life.

Following an intensive investigation, detectives identified 31-year-old Jeremie Northcross, Staten’s boyfriend, as the suspect. The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office has since charged Northcross with First-Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action.

Police believe the shooting was domestic-related, though a specific motive has not yet been released. The Homicide Division continues to investigate and urges anyone with information to contact detectives at 314-444-5371.
