HIGHGATE, Vt – Authorities are investigating a tragic accident in Highgate that claimed the life of 40-year-old Corey Lemoine late Tuesday night.
According to Vermont State Police, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian crash on Highgate Road shortly after 11 p.m. Upon arrival, they discovered that Lemoine had been struck by a truck driven by 36-year-old Blake Issacs.
Investigators determined that Lemoine was walking near the centerline of the roadway when he was hit. Despite immediate emergency response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police believe dense fog and low visibility were significant factors contributing to the collision. Authorities stated that speed, drugs, and alcohol are not suspected to have played a role in the incident.
The roadway was temporarily closed as investigators worked through the night to collect evidence and reconstruct the crash scene.
The Vermont State Police Crash Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
