Deadly Shooting Outside Donna Daycare Linked to Domestic Violence, Sheriff Confirms

DONNA, Texas — A tragic act of domestic violence unfolded Tuesday afternoon outside a daycare in Donna, leaving two people dead in what authorities describe as a murder-suicide.

According to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. at Neni’s Childcare #2, located in the 1200 block of Stites Road, where 26-year-old Nubia Bravo worked. Sheriff Guerra confirmed that Bravo’s estranged husband, 41-year-old Saul Esquivel, entered the daycare by force while five children were inside.

Investigators say Esquivel confronted Bravo inside the building before she led him away from the children and fled through the back door in an attempt to escape. Esquivel followed her outside, where he fatally shot her. He then reportedly lay down beside his wife and took his own life.

Fortunately, none of the children inside were physically harmed. They were quickly reunited with family members following the incident.

Sheriff Guerra described the shooting as a “heartbreaking act of domestic violence,” emphasizing the importance of seeking help in abusive or dangerous situations. “There are resources and people ready to help — please reach out before tragedy strikes,” he said.

The investigation remains ongoing, as authorities and the community mourn the devastating loss of a young mother whose life was taken far too soon.
