HANOVER COUNTY, Va. — A Mechanicsville man has died after being run over by a vehicle Thursday morning in what authorities believe was a tragic accident.

Deputies with the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded around 9:30 a.m. to the 9200 block of Haska Court in Mechanicsville after receiving reports that a man had been struck by a vehicle on private property.

When first responders arrived, they found the victim partially trapped beneath the vehicle. Hanover Fire & EMS personnel worked quickly to extricate him before he was transported to VCU Medical Center in Richmond. Despite emergency efforts, the man later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as 72-year-old Gary Wayne Anderson of Mechanicsville.

According to investigators, the preliminary findings suggest the incident was accidental, and no foul play is suspected at this time. Authorities have not released additional details on how the accident occurred but continue to review the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Neighbors and community members expressed sadness upon hearing of Anderson’s passing, describing him as a kind and friendly man who often greeted everyone in the neighborhood.

The Hanover County Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to the family and said updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
